"Process unit" means a collection of interconnected vessels and equipment designed
to separate, purify, react, combine or otherwise chemically or physically alter one
or more feed materials, to produce one or more finished or intermediate products and
associated wastes, defined by plot or boundary limits. For example, a catalytic cracking
unit, a hydrocracking complex, etc. Pieces of a process unit such as pumps, compressors,
towers, reactors, vessels, and other such equipment and appurtenances, do not constitute
a process unit.
